Yesterday we used our whisper phones for the first time in class. Our whisper phones help us to hear ourselves read during our independent reading time. We can speak really, really softly and the whisper phone amplifies our voice and directs the sounds to our ears. This means we can listen to ourselves read without disturbing our friends. We loved using our phones yesterday; we enjoyed reading our book wherever we felt comfortable in the room. Our room was so quiet and peaceful too!
One of Rosella's L3 literacy activities every morning is 'Read to Self'. We all have a special box that contains the books we have read with our teachers in the Engine Room. We call them our familiar readers. Re-reading our familiar readers independently allows us to practise the reading skills we are learning in L3 time and throughout the day. Reading a familiar text builds up our confidence and allows us to 'show off' our reading skills. It's important that we read books that are easy over and over again to practise reading fluently, which means that our reading sounds smooth, not choppy and stilted. Our ultimate aim is to make our reading sound like talking! Yesterday we used our whisper phones for the first time in class. Our whisper phones help us to hear ourselves read during our independent reading time. We can speak really, really softly and the whisper phone amplifies our voice and directs the sounds to our ears.
