Today we held our ANZAC Day Ceremony at school. Lots of photos are now on our school website here.

With our school ANZAC Day Ceremony happening next Thursday, we read the lovely picture book 'My Grandad Marches on ANZAC Day' by Catriona Hoy this week. We found it a very moving story about families and the importance of sharing memories and remembering.
We also investigated the poppy as a symbol of remembrance; we looked at photos of poppy fields and we also looked at some paintings of poppies by Claude Monet. Inspired by what they saw, Rosella painted their own poppy fields in the style of Monet, dabbing their red paint on with different sized brushes to create wonderful textures on their green oil pastel crayon background. Here is Rosella's beautiful tribute.

Another ANZAC story you may wish to listen together at home is 'ANZAC Ted' by Angela Landsberry. It can be viewed in the YouTube below.
‘They’d see a hero, plain as day
Who sits upon my bed. A hero, who saved me and you. His name … is Anzac Ted.' |
