Rosella has loved learning about the special seahorse the past two weeks. It was so exciting for us to actually see them swimming around in the tank at the Sydney Aquarium last Friday! This is what we have learnt so far.
Rosella really enjoyed this funny YouTube about the seahorse.
We also loved watching this great video of seahorses swimming, hanging on and hiding in a tank. We thought they looked so cute! It was also very relaxing to watch with the beautiful music.
Please enjoy this story 'Seahorse, Run!' at home.

The white clay has now air dried, so here are Rosella's beautifully sparkling Rainbow Fish. (We needed some help from the hot glue gun to keep our sparkles on!) We used white air dry clay to create our own rainbow fish today. We found that the clay felt quite sticky at first, but we soon discovered how quickly clay dries out when you work with it. We embedded sequins in our fish to give it a special 'rainbow sparkle'! Our fish have been set aside to dry and we will post photos when they have dried completely. Here is a sneak peek! (To our classmates who were away sick today - your friends helped make a sparkly fish for you too.)
Rosella had a maths problem to solve today. Twelve sea animals had to be shared equally between four aquarium tanks. How many animals could they put in each tank? We used the 'Feltboard' iPad app to help us solve the problem. We uploaded our work from the camera roll on the iPad to our Seesaw Journal. Great work Rosella!
It's been all about whales this week! Rosella could not believe how big the Blue Whale is. It's the largest animal on land or sea in the world, its heart alone is the size of a small car. Wow! Whale, krill and mammals have been Rosella's passwords this week and we have also enjoyed lots of stories about whales.
Here are some of the YouTubes we have enjoyed in class this week. We have learnt lots of interesting things about whales.
Rosella had great fun creating short animations using the Play School Art Maker iPad app this morning in L3 groups. It was the first time we had used this app and we had to create a scene with some sea animals and Rainbow Fish features in some of our animations too! We went to the back of our classroom to record our voices, but discovered in some cases there was still quite a bit of background noise! We were very clever and had to follow a couple of steps to export our video from this app to the camera roll of our iPads. A great job Rosella!
Today Rosella made some very special fish in L3 groups time. We were inspired to give our gorgeous fish a name and we wanted to introduce them to you! Please read what we wrote about our fish today in our online flippable book.
In L3 groups this morning Rosella chose a plaster sea animal to paint at the standing table. They look fabulous!
Rosella used the 'Drawing Pad' iPad app for the first time in L3 groups this morning to recreate a scene from 'The Rainbow Fish' story we have recently enjoyed. We inserted a sea background, used the sticker tool to insert two of the characters that help Rainbow Fish in this story - the starfish and the wise octopus. We then drew a beautiful rainbow fish to complete the picture. We saved their creations to the camera roll on the iPad and then uploaded our pictures to our journal on Seesaw. Well done Rosella!
Rosella have loved learning about sharks this week - this may be their favourite sea creature so far! Here are some shark facts
Rosella loved the description of a shark in this video - silently stalking in the deep, blue ocean comes a sleek and scary shark!
Rosella also enjoyed this video on the Great White Shark.
The seahorses that Rosella made yesterday with the help of our special visitors for Open Day are now hanging in our classroom. We made some seaweed for them today and now our seahorses are swimming happily amongst their seaweed. We think they look beautiful!
Well . . . almost! We used the Quiver iPad app to bring our scary sharks to life. It's a fantastic augmented reality app and when we first used it a couple of weeks ago we couldn't believe our eyes when our sea animals came to life (fish, sharks, dolphins and octopus). We showed our parents and grandparents how to use the app today during 'Open Classrooms'. Here we are with our sharks swimming about. What do you think?

Rosella enjoyed the story 'Rainbow Fish to the Rescue' which featured a shark that the fish were able to outwit in the end to save their friend. We painted our sharks yesterday and we put the finishing touches to them this morning. They are now swimming happily under the sea with our rainbow fish and starfish. Visit our classroom if you dare!

Rosella are enjoying learning about lots of different sea creatures this term. This is what we have learnt about fish so far.
We wanted these information clips on our blog so we could watch them again at home!
