"Chance Dance" with Rosella from Sue Dowling on Vimeo.
Lots of moving in our second science lesson on Friday. Rosella played "Chance Dance" with two dice - one to tell us how to move and the other determining speed, direction and height. Lots of fun, but we had to think very carefully about how we were going to move.

As part of our science unit "On The Move", our lesson on Friday was about toys that move. Rosella all brought in a toy from home and we had to predict how the toys would move. We then watched them in action! We recorded how our toy moved in our science journal.

The healthy habit we looked at this week in Health/PD was sun safety. We spoke about the need to wear a hat, sunglasses, a shirt, use sunscreen, drink water to stay hydrated and also find shade when you can.
We enjoyed the story "George the Sun Safe Superstar" and wanted to become sun safe superstars ourselves! To achieve this we made a special 'Sun Safe Backpack' with all that we needed inside. Grug wanted one too!
Here is the story to enjoy again at home.
We also enjoyed watching 'Sun Days Fun Days' with its important daily reminders about keeping safe in the sun.
Rosella began investigating the concept of mass in maths today and how heavy and light objects are. Our first task was to find some objects in the classroom that we thought were lighter and heavier than Mrs Dowling's drink bottle. We did a great job!
We discovered that we could compare the weight of two objects by holding them in each hand and balancing - hefting. However, Mrs Dowling tried to trick us. She gave us a pom pom that was larger than one of our marbles. We discovered the smaller marble was heavier! Next we held a large ball we use for sport and compared it to a small yellow 'ball' we had never seen before. This mysterious small ball was a lot heavier! It was a shot put! So when you are comparing how heavy something is, we found out that bigger does not always mean heavier!
We passed the shot put around (very carefully) because we all wanted to hold it. We couldn't believe how heavy it was.
We worked on sorting some pictures of objects together on the floor and then sorted some independently in our maths journal.
We all had a turn sorting objects on our Smartboard.
We finished off today with a big laugh watching Ernie and Bert investigate mass. Poor Bert!
Rosella had our third Monster Challenge today! We had to read a description of the monster and then draw what we thought the monster would look like. Another wonderful effort by everyone today!
One of our activities in L3 groups today was to create a monster picture using the Feltboard app. We haven't used this app for a while and we enjoyed creating a 'scary monster' picture. We could choose a background, add a monster, throw in some scary animals and finish with some bad weather. Be very afraid!
Watch these these cool dudes in Kindergarten strike a pose!
On a rather chilly morning, we still enjoyed sport with all of our Kinder friends.
Kinder Sport June 2, 2017 from Sue Dowling on Vimeo. Well done to another Rosella student who reached 50 nights of home reading this week. A great effort! Congratulations also to our children who reached 75 nights of home reading. A fabulous effort too!
As part of our science unit "On The Move" our lesson today was about playground play. We had to think about how we moved on the different playground equipment and what body parts we need to move to be able to walk, slide, crawl, climb, balance etc. This science lesson definitely called for some practical investigation so we went straight up to the top oval to test out our bodies on the playground equipment!
We returned to the classroom for sharing and discussion about what we discovered and we recorded one way we moved on the playground equipment with an illustration and accompanying sentence in our science journals. Please take a look. Playground Play With Rosella from Sue Dowling on Vimeo. Congratulations to our Rosella Achievement Award recipients at this week's K-6 Assembly. We are very proud of you!
Rosella have been learning about halves and we have learnt that cutting something in half means cutting it into two equal parts. We had fun making our own pizzas today and choosing different toppings. It was soon time to cut our pizzas into halves to show how we could share it fairly between two people. Do you think our pizzas look delicious?
Here is a story to enjoy at home called 'Give Me Half!' by Stuart J.Murphy,
We also enjoyed watching Ernie try and find the missing half of his sandwich!
Why not watch the Numberjacks play a game of two halves and solve the problems caused by the 'Shape Japer'.
Rosella have been talking about healthy food with all of Kindergarten on Fridays as part of our Health Unit this term 'Healthy Habits'. We have also be discovering lots about 3D objects in maths. So today we combined this learning and used plasticine to create 3D models of some of our favourite types of fruit - apples, bananas, pears, oranges and grapes. We have fruit break every morning and know how important it is to eat fruit every day. We were really clever at stretching and rolling the plasticine to create different shapes and textures for the fruit in our special bowl. They look good enough to eat!

About UsRosella is a class of 17 happy and enthusiastic children excited to be in Kindergarten at Helensburgh PS in 2017. Our teachers are Mrs Jan Fuller (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Sue Dowling (Thursday and Friday) Our school is in NSW, Australia. Please feed Jig an apple and spray him clean if he rolls in the mud!
