We had two birthdays to celebrate in 'Kinder Time Together' yesterday, including one Rosella friend. We celebrated with singing, a special certificate and book mark. Happy birthday!

Rosella got in early and celebrated the Very Hungry Caterpillar's birthday this week. It's 48th birthday is on Monday the 20th of March! Rosella couldn't let this birthday go past without a special celebration. The slideshow below captures the enjoyment we had revisiting this very special story.
Did you enjoy the retelling of this story at home by the wonderful Rosella students with their puppets and props?
Here is the animation of the story we watched at school for you to enjoy again at home.
Here are Rosella with their very hungry caterpillars enjoying one nice green leaf.
Rosella thoroughly enjoyed their Gymsports session today. Some tricky balance beam work together with forward and body rolls and the mini-trampoline made for a busy time. Lots of fun! We had one birthday to celebrate in 'Kinder Time Together' yesterday with singing, a special certificate and book mark. Happy birthday to our Rosella friend! No rain yesterday meant Rosella could also enjoy a full session of developmental play with all their Kinder friends. Painting, colouring in, drawing, dress-up, building, cooking and even a teddy bear's picnic. We had a fabulous time! More photos of all our Kinder friends can be found on our school website here. Rosella love practising writing our names using the 'Scratch Art' paper. Today we used some stencils to add some extra decoration. They looked fabulous!
There was no rain today (yay!!), so Rosella enjoyed sport in the great outdoors this morning! We loved it! Lots more photos of all of Kindergarten can also be found on the 'Latest Photos' page of our website. Congratulations to our Rosella Achievement Award recipients at this week's K-6 Assembly. We are very proud of you!
Rosella are loving their whisper phones while reading their familiar readers in 'Read to Self' time. Everyone is trying so hard with their reading. Well done Rosella!
Rosella have been learning about the days of the week as part of 'Time' in measurement and geometry. They have been investigating how many days of the week there are, their names and also their order. (We also incorporate this in our morning routine every day.) Today in our maths journals we recorded what happens on a Tuesday at school. We are sure you can guess where we go on a Tuesday from our gorgeous pictures below! Yes . . . the library.
We sing a variety of songs about the days of the week, but Rosella really enjoyed this 'Days of the Week' rap today and wanted it on the blog to sing it with you at home. So . . . let's go!
One of Rosella's L3 literacy activities every morning is 'Read to Self'. We all have a special box that contains the books we have read with our teachers in the Engine Room. We call them our familiar readers. Re-reading our familiar readers independently allows us to practise the reading skills we are learning in L3 time and throughout the day. Reading a familiar text builds up our confidence and allows us to 'show off' our reading skills. It's important that we read books that are easy over and over again to practise reading fluently, which means that our reading sounds smooth, not choppy and stilted. Our ultimate aim is to make our reading sound like talking! Yesterday we used our whisper phones for the first time in class. Our whisper phones help us to hear ourselves read during our independent reading time. We can speak really, really softly and the whisper phone amplifies our voice and directs the sounds to our ears. This means we can listen to ourselves read without disturbing our friends. We loved using our phones yesterday; we enjoyed reading our book wherever we felt comfortable in the room. Our room was so quiet and peaceful too!
Rosella thought we'd have some fun yesterday creating a mini version of ourselves in foam. The likeness is incredible! It was also good practise to find the letters in our name and put them in the correct order. We do know that our names start with a capital letter, however there were no foam capital letters. Not to miss a learning opportunity, we had to recognise and find the lower case version of the first letter in our names. We did a great job and we think we all look fabulous! What do you think?
Rosella in Foam 2017 from Sue Dowling on Vimeo. The wet weather yesterday meant it was indoor sport for Rosella and Kinder classes. We enjoyed stretching, twisting and turning our bodies during a session of yoga. Kindergarten also had only one birthday this past week in to celebrate during our Kinder Time Together.
It was 'Dr Seuss Day' on March 2nd. This day is a celebration of Dr Seuss's life and works, as it was on this day in 1904 that he was born. Rosella celebrated his 113th birthday by reading and enjoying some of his books in class this week. We love his stories because of all the rhyming words he uses and the funny things that happen in his books.
We focussed on his classic story yesterday 'The Cat in the Hat' and we are sure you will be able to guess the rhyming works we put in our silly soup yesterday!
Rosella had lots of fun with words that rhymed with cat and hat and we improvised with our own sentences and wonderful drawings. We used the ‘Explain Everything’ iPad app to record our voices. Please enjoy our special 'Dr Seuss Day' iMovie.
What is your favourite Dr Seuss book?
Rosella have been investigating the concept of 'position' in maths this week. Using ourselves, Grug and our Grug puppets we consolidated what we have been talking about and exploring in class. Please watch us in action below.

We have also enjoyed this song about position in class. Please enjoy it again at home!
